Designing features in a virtual paraflight room

Our Basingstoke design studio works with a variety of clients and projects to create office interior designs, but this was certainly different. iFly in Basingstoke have installed a new Virtual Reality Paraflight room and we were asked to come up with a creative design to brand the suite, using the concept of the northern lights. We naturally had a go on the Paraflight (it's amazing!) and took some photos so we could create visual mockups before finalising the design.

We used Photoshop to combine a northern lights night sky with a snowy mountain range, giving a sense of space, height and drama to the room. The panels for the booths, with a complete width of 16 metres, were again composited in Photoshop, then put together in Illustrator at a scale of 25% with a cutting path for final production.

Once artwork was print ready we used a variety of media to create the final effect. The large main wall was covered with a grey back wallpaper that spans an area of over 20 square metres. Around the base of the units is a mountain scene that is printed onto white vinyl with a matching laminate. The canopies are wapped in Cardinal Red using Avery Dennison supreme wrapping film (cast car wrap vinyl) with some cut white vinyl lettering to show the website for when people are taking photos or videos of their friends when using it. There is also more cut vinyl applied to other areas, in a mixture of printed and coloured vinyl. All the print production was produced on our Roland VS-540i using eco-sol3 inks.
